For those of you thinking about buying a home in the Atlanta area, you are invited to attend a first-time homebuyer’s education workshop. This will be held by the HUD certified housing counselor of the Urban League of Greater Atlanta’s housing department. The agency will also work with partner groups such as local mortgage lenders, banks, realtors, home inspectors or maintenance experts, and they offer referrals to down payment assistance programs. Clients can explore low interest loans or closing cost programs that are available in Georgia.
Urban League housing counselors provide information and guidance to help families and individuals improve their living situation. This includes both homeownership and tenancy. Counselors from ULGA will assist in helping prospective homebuyers avoid unreasonably high mortgage interest rates, inflated appraisals, unaffordable repayment terms, and other conditions that can result in increased debt, a loss of equity, mortgage default, and maybe eventual foreclosure.
The Urban League of Greater Atlanta has been approved by the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development to provide help to both homeowners and tenants. This means that the Urban League can offer various types of rental and housing counseling solutions.
The Urban League of Greater Atlanta will also work on preventing and/or resolving mortgage delinquency as well as evictions. Staff will help with preventing foreclosure, with a primary objective to preserve homeownership. Counselors from the agency help existing homeowners address their needs and navigate the many options regarding refinancing.
