With the theme of “Standing Up For Justice … Embracing Change, Restoring Hope,” our 54th Annual Equal Opportunity Day Dinner was a rousing success. For their efforts to advance criminal justice reform and ensure equal treatment under the law, the capacity audience enthusiastically applauded the well-known honorees: Equal Justice Champion United States Attorney General Loretta Lynch; Legislative Justice Advocate Georgia Congressman Hank Johnson;Criminal Justice Reform Champion Georgia Governor Nathan Deal; Legal Rights Champion civil rights Attorney Mawuli Mel Davis; Community Philanthropy Champion radio personality and civic activist Derrick Boazman; and Guild Awardees ULGA Guild president Herman “Drew” Andrews and ULGA Young Professionals president Tereance Puryear.
Special thanks to our sponsors including GEICO, Wells Fargo, Southwest Airlines, The Coca Cola Company, Georgia Pacific, Chic-fil-A, and more. The evening ended with a dessert reception and dancing, after the close of a silent auction that raised additional funds for the ULGA’s vital work to bring economic opportunity and justice to men, women and youth throughout the metropolitan area.
