Step Up to Work – An Initiative to Get Metro Atlantans Back to Work
Step UP to Work connects Metro Atlanta employers that have open positions with qualified work ready job seekers. Step UP helps you secure employment with your current skills on a fast track!
At the Urban League of Greater Atlanta, we understand that securing work is a top priority to stabilize a household and our community. So in addition to our Monday – Friday 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. hours of operation, we have extended our employment service hours on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. with the help of our Urban League core of volunteers.
Job Seekers – Step Up to Work Orientation – Walk-Ins Welcome!
The first step is to register for a Step Up to Work Orientation conducted once a month at 10 am. You will:

Energetic and supportive staff and volunteers are on hand to support you every step of the way!
Many of our clients benefit from one-on-one counseling and assessment, personalized employability plans as well as free and/or low-cost group workshops. The program also sponsors periodic on-site Career Opportunity Forums that spotlight employment and career opportunities in a variety of industries with employers located throughout the metro area. Candidates that successfully complete the League’s Job Ready Program requirements have the greatest opportunity to secure employment.
Whether you are an experienced displaced professional, laid off worker, returning to the workforce, looking to upgrade your job skills or a person with special challenges to employment including homelessness, a criminal history, limited work history or without a high school diploma, the Urban League has an empowering pathway for you that will take you from where you are to where you want to go! Employers & Jobs Wanted! – Access Talent Through the Urban League Job and Talent Banks!
The Urban League is eager to build relationships with metro area employers who are seeking hard working, talented and professional staff. Through our Job and Talent Banks, you may register all open positions and have access to our pre-screened and work ready clients. Together we will get Metro Atlanta workers back on the job!

A Second Chance: The Transitional Employment Program
This program targets the “most in need” populations including ex-offenders, the homeless, TANF recipients and youth exiting foster care.
Service provisions include:
- Counseling
- Assessments
- Life Skills
- Job Readiness Workshops
- Case Management
- Referrals to Supportive Services
- Job Referrals and Placement

The Entrepreneurship Center (TEC)
The Entrepreneurship Center (TEC) works with private, public and nonprofit entities to build strong, sustainable and successful minority businesses. The ultimate goals is to build wealth, create jobs and strengthen the economy of minority and urban core communities within metropolitan Atlanta.
The TEC offers small business owners and prospective owners training in:
- Small Business Startup
- Management and Growth
- Green Business Development
- CEO Coaching
- Business Development Courses
- Access to Capital
Most services are free of charge.
The TEC program is designed to address a wide range of clients – from current business owners, to those contemplating starting their own business. No matter where you find yourself in the process, the Entrepreneurship Center can help.
New for 2011! The Urban League Micro Loan Fund
With support from the Association for Corporate Growth, the Urban League will launch a small micro loan fund this Spring for its clients that create microenterprises and prepare a business plan through the TEC. For more information, sign up for a TEC Orientation on our TEC website.
